Scaling and Polishing

FAQ
Saliva contains minerals, which when attached to the teeth for a long time will harden and form tartar. The rough surfaces of tartar plaque make it easier for bacteria to stick to and often cause inflammation of the gums (gingivitis). One indication of this is bleeding of the gums, especially when brushing teeth. Tartar cleaning (scaling) should be routinely performed every 6 months to prevent gingivitis. Because if left unchecked, gingivitis will progress to periodontitis (periodontal inflammation) which one of the symptoms is tooth mobility. This treatment can not be done alone at home because it uses specialized tools and techniques.
