Breast Lift (Mastopexy): Raising Without Changing Size

Mastopexy · Breast Lift Jakarta
by dr. Enrina Diah, Sp.BP-RE, KKF & dr. Grace Boaz, Sp.BP-RE

A breast lift (mastopexy) raises and reshapes sagging breasts without adding an implant or significantly changing size. Excess skin is removed, the tissue is tightened, and the nipple-areola complex is repositioned higher.

Who Is It For?

NOTE

A lift differs from augmentation mastopexy (lift + implant) and from reduction (lift + smaller): here the breast is only raised and tightened, without adding or removing volume.

INCISION PATTERNS

Three Incision Patterns, by Degree of Sagging

The incision pattern is determined by your degree of sagging (ptosis).

Periareolar (Donut)
MILD SAGGING

An incision around the areola only. For mild ptosis.

Vertical (Lollipop)
MODERATE SAGGING

Around the areola and extending downward. For moderate ptosis.

Anchor (Inverted-T)
SEVERE SAGGING

Around the areola, down, and along the breast fold. For severe ptosis.

What to Expect

Technique
Excess-skin removal + tightening + nipple-areola repositioning.
Incision
Periareolar, vertical (lollipop), or anchor — matched to the degree of sagging (see above).
Anesthesia
Sedation (with monitoring).
Hospital stay
Day-surgery procedure — no overnight stay; home the same day.
Recovery
Return to light desk work after about 5–7 days; avoid heavy lifting for 3–4 weeks. Wear a dedicated support bra (medical bra) for the first weeks to protect the result.
Result
A more lifted, firmer breast; long-lasting (position is still affected by gravity and aging).
FREQUENTLY ASKED

Frequently Asked Questions

How is a lift different from implants?

A lift corrects position (raising what has sagged), while implants add volume. If you want both lifted and fuller, the two can be combined in one procedure (augmentation mastopexy).

No. A lift raises and tightens without significantly adding or removing size. If you want fuller, it can be combined with an implant; if you want smaller, see breast reduction.

Yes, the results are long-lasting, though gravity and aging still naturally affect shape over time.

Yes. Wearing a dedicated support bra (medical bra) for the first few weeks helps reduce swelling, supports the tissue as it heals, and protects the lift result.
