Ptosis Correction
Ptosis is when the upper eyelid margin sits low over the pupil because the lifting muscle (levator) is weak. Unlike excess skin, this is a muscle problem — and it requires correcting the muscle, not merely removing skin. At Ultimo Clinic, it is performed by dr. Grace Boaz, Sp.BP-RE.
What It Addresses
- An upper lid margin that sits low over the pupil
- A habit of raising the brow to “help” open the eyes
- A sleepy or asymmetric look (one lid lower than the other)
- Congenital ptosis (from birth) or acquired (age-related or other)
Ptosis can accompany excess skin. In those cases, upper blepharoplasty and ptosis correction can be performed together for a complete result.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is ptosis different from heavy eyelids caused by skin?
Heavy lids from skin (dermatochalasis) are an excess-skin problem; ptosis is a weak lifting-muscle problem that lets the lid margin drop. They look similar but are treated differently — dr. Grace's assessment determines which applies.
Is ptosis in children also treated?
Ptosis can be congenital (from birth) or acquired. Congenital cases require their own evaluation — please discuss this at consultation.
